About the role:
Construction Skills is based across two sites. The North Road campus consists of Brickwork, Plastering, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas. The facilities include separate workshops for each area to give the students a realistic approach to the workplace. There are also designated classrooms with suitable visual aids to facilitate teaching and learning.
The Fulcrum is located at Tower Park in Poole. The Fulcrum has a purpose-built building which facilitates Wood occupations, for example Boat Building and Site Carpentry. These workshops cater for students to work on full size rigs giving a realistic approach to the workplace. We also have a specific area of machinery which Level 3 carpenters may use as part of their programme.
You will be undertaking Instructor and Technician duties, generally in the Centre’s workshops, stores and in other areas as directed, to assist lecturers in the delivery of study programmes and the maintenance and preparation of resources.
The role includes the organising of End Point Assessments, preparation of materials & resources and assisting the examiner where required.
Responsibilities as our Brick/Multi Instructor Technician will include:
Technician activities
- Support the student, staff and Lecturers to maintain a high standard of operation including preparation, clearing away, sweeping and maintenance etc
- Check levels of stock and work with the team to ensure good stock control at all times
Apparatus and Stock
- Support Technicians, Lecturers and Instructors in maintaining, cleaning and repair of apparatus, equipment and workshops
- Prepare and clear away any material apparatus, equipment and materials ensuring correct storage and correct inventory records maintained
Health & Safety
- Responsible for ensure the Health & Safety of self and others within the workshops
- Ensure that apparatus and equipment are used in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations
As our Brick/Multi Instructor Technician, you’ll ideally have:
- English and Maths or willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe
- Experience in Health & Safety
- Able to travel across sites
- The ability to analyse and solve problems
- Interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Capable of preparing materials for use in the workshop for student projects
- Can sustain stamina in a post that can be physically demanding
