The Role:

As our Student Wellbeing Coach & Safeguarding Officer, you will work across the college within a team providing personal support primarily to full-time learners that are deemed ‘At Risk ‘on a number of pastoral topics referring to support within Student Support and the wider Student Support and Inclusion directorate as appropriate with regular one-to-ones appropriately recorded. 

The Student Inclusion and Support Directorate comprises 3 strands of support; Personal Development, Student safeguarding and wellbeing and SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) 

This role sits within the Student Wellbeing Team.

 

Responsibilities as our Student Wellbeing Coach & Safeguarding Officer: 

  • Assessing students with common mental health concerns in their self-management whilst at college and promote independence and resilience
  • Holding a caseload of students, which may involve mental health concerns, Children In Care and other wellbeing concerns
  • Adhering to the College mental health/wellbeing policy and work within protocols on the admissions procedures, assessments, referral systems and guidelines for tutors
  • Liaising both with college staff and external agencies to ensure that students with mental health/wellbeing needs access an appropriate learning programme when moving into mainstream college courses
  • Making decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the Colleges referral protocols, and refer students on to the relevant external service as appropriate
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to mental health and other wellbeing/welfare concerns
  • Supporting the on-going College application process, interviews, and initial assessment of students support needs as part of the Colleges application and enrolment procedures, working under direction of the Student Wellbeing Coordinator.
  • Contributing to the initial assessment of the students support needs as part of the College’s application and enrolment procedures including Student finance

 

As our Student Wellbeing Coach & Safeguarding Officer, you’ll ideally have: 

  • Level 2 (or equivalent) English and Maths
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification in working with Young People
  • Relevant and recent experience working with people who have experienced significant mental, emotional distress or trauma
  • Experience in dealing directly with Safeguarding
  • Possess the confidence and experience to work successfully with students, staff and external agencies around mental health, wellbeing and safeguarding
